Obituary for David L. Ransom: David Leland Ransom, 71, of Traverse City passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Dave was born on September 18, 1946 in Traverse City to the late Robert and Marjorie (Shepardson) Ransom. Dave proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War. Over the course of his career, Dave worked in the Heating, Cooling and Ventilation industry. However, his love for flying led to his piloting the corporate planes for a number of area businesses, allowing him to travel the United States. He also loved nature and spending time outdoors, especially on Drummond Island with his good friends. He enjoyed being his with his family and never missed an opportunity to take pictures or videotape his grandchildren’s special events. David leaves a loving legacy to his family. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Gloria, two daughters, Michele Ransom-Gamble and Becky Ransom, five beloved grandchildren, Deontae, Reece, Tegan, Kaylin and Addison. Also surviving are a brother, Tom (Siri) Ransom, a niece, Linsley Ransom, as well as many of Gloria’s extended family. The visitation celebrating David’s life with his family will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Friday, October 20, 2017 at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City, MI 49684. The committal service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Pastor Chris Lane will officiate. Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Navy, Cherryland V.F.W. post 2780 and American Legon post 35.
