Obituary: Nelsine A. Jacobsen
Died June 29, 2022
SUTTONS BAY – Nelsine Ann Jacobsen, 75, of Suttons Bay, passed away unexpectedly on June 29, 2022 at Munson Medical Center on the 2nd floor, where she for many years was the nurse manager.
Nelsine was born in Traverse City September 19, 1946 to Clayton and Mildred Jacobsen. She joined older sister Jill and 2 years later brother Lowell was born.
She married Michael Gravlin in November of 1963, shortly after that, attended Northwestern Michigan College to become a nurse. Nelsine eventually went on to earn her BSN from the University of Michigan and a MSN from Duke University. She was a devoted nurse who was dedicated to health care and her profession. Nelsine and Michael had three children Monique, Erika and Michael Jr. There were adventures to Disney world when it was new, trips out west and to Washington DC.
Nelsine would not hesitate to go sledding in the winter, ski with her children, or go boating with grandchildren. She taught her children by example, by never shying away from a challenge or to learn something new. As a mom, Nelsine supported all her children’s pursuits.
Nelsine had 12 grandchildren who she adored. She was especially proud of recently becoming a great grandmother. She loved more than anything having her grandchildren spend time with her in Suttons Bay. Her “Grands” were her everything, and she would often text with them to get the latest.
Nelsine was a great cook and entertainer and always made birthdays special. She was known especially for her egg rolls, Swedish pancakes and famous Christmas cookies.
Nelsine had recently lost a dear friend Jim Packard who she enjoyed many of her last years with. They enjoyed golfing and winters in Vero Beach Florida.
Her family will continue to carry on Nelsine’s legacy by living life to its fullest and keeping the love for family alive.
Nelsine is survived by her children, Monique (Anthony) Devine, Erika (Daniel) Berry, and Michael Gravlin; 12 grandchildren, Andrew (Meredith), Spencer, William, and Meredith Devine, Max, Isabelle, Ava, and Charlotte Berry, Lily, Emma, Kate, and Coco Gravlin; one great-grandchild, Emilia Devine; sister, Valerie “Jill” Bert; and brother; Lowell (Sharon) Jacobson; nieces, Kerry Clark, Kristen Mehrhof, Kim Jacobsen, and Emily Keenan; and good friends Carol Gravlin, and Joanne Badger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two close friends, Nancy Morris and ex-husband and best friend, Jim Packard.
